Morning Mr Magpie

Always elegant in its appearance, this iconic member of the Corvidae family is believed to be one of the most intelligent and expressive of all birds (and animals). It is known for its cognitive behaviour patterns such as being very strategic and organised, as well as having the ability of self-recognition. It is also known to imitate human sounds.
In
British Folklore, the lone magpie is associated with bad luck, sorrow
or grief. As a result of this superstition we are encouraged to salute the bird
with the traditional greeting of “Good Morning Mr Magpie” as a mark of respect
and to ward of misfortune,
Here at
Symetria we like to view this incredible creature with a less somber association;
we are celebrating the Magpie as one of the only birds we actually take the
time to greet.
In
celebrating the greeting of the magpie, and in keeping with the occasions on
which people send cards to one another, we feel this version of the well-known poem
is an apt choice for a greetings card collection.
